The Making of a “Soccerman”

On the 8th of January 2012 a fresh faced young “Ipswich Boy”, Dean Butler, nervously arrived at Ginger Sport HQ. Little did anyone know what the future was to bring. From that first day, and everyday in between, Dean has worked tirelessly putting smiles on tens of thousands of childrens faces all across South East Queensland.

With a love for Soccer and an infectious enthusiasm he quickly became a hit amongst the children. Soccer parties were always guaranteed to be on O.T.T blast when Coach Dean rolled in, so much so that sometimes he had to remember the Birthday child was supposed to be the star! In fact, Dean was even recognised as a national finalist for ‘Best Preschool and Toddler Coach’ in the What’s on for Kids awards!

From playing in the Mud with Nature Play Queensland, to setting up inflatable soccer fields in the middle of Suncorp Piazza, to meeting Socceroo Matt McKay and once coaching with a dislocated shoulder Coach Dean really did it all.

More than just a coach, Dean also quickly became a leader and passed on his knowledge and skills to other coaches. Dean helped the business grow and bring the special mix of Ginger Sport fun to thousands more of Queensland’s kids by pioneering sessions in Ipswich and Toowoomba.

Eight years later Coach Dean, Ginger Sport Coaching Manager, leaves with an indelible legacy etched into Ginger Sport folklore. With a growing young family the time has come for Dean to focus his attention on putting smiles on two particularly special childrens faces.
